SEO Search Engine Optimization using the Google Wonder wheel

What an awesome tool the Google Wonder wheel is. Another reason why Google has risen to the top of the search engine pile, and plans on staying there!

The Wonder wheel. Have you ever typed a query in the search bar and come up with everything “But” what you were looking for? Yes, we all have. Google’s Wonder wheel saves the day! Not only will this new tool enable you to explore relevant, related search terms but it’s also a fantastic tool for Internet marketing. Google has recently crested the 1,000,000 wheels mark!

Here’s how it works……

homestartupbusiness.comAs an example: Type “fly fishing” into the search bar and press “Enter”

When the results page comes up click on the “Plus Sign” You should see the “Show options” menu open on the left side of the screen. Under the “Standard view” you’ll see “Related searches, Wonder wheel, Timeline”

As you can see there are many options to choose from, this is where Google has really out done itself. After you’ve explored this exercise click on some of the other options from that page. Many, Many Google users don’t even know some of these choices are right at their fingertips!

homestartupbusiness.comBut first….Choose the “Wonder wheel” option as seen left.

Next you’ll see the related and most relevant search terms displayed in a “visual” tool. If you are looking to market your blog using related search terms, this is where you’ll find them. “Fly tying, Fly fishing tips and Fly fishing videos” are just a few of the relevant search terms related to your original search query. Of course this tool started its journey in the experimental phase of Google labs. It was so popular by surfers and marketers alike, that it found a permanent home amongst the many options that Google has to offer.

Optimizing your blog for “free” and driving traffic to your main site, is the focus of what we’re trying to accomplish here. Fly fishing is only an example. You could use any search term related to your niche

The original keyword phrase “Fly fishing” (example) is the most relevant keyword for your “main site”, where you’re promoting your products, services and business opportunities. The more popular the keyword is, the better. Competition for this keyword is not a factor.

homestartupbusiness.comNow, choose one of the keyword spokes from the wonder wheel and enter that keyword into Google’s keyword tool. Search through the results and locate the related keywords with the lowest competition and the most searches

The Google keyword tool returned “Fly fishing video’s” which is one result having fairly good amount of hits with a low amount of competition.

OK, now go to Blogger

Create a new blog using “Fly fishing video” as the title of the new blog. Write about 4 or 5 short articles revolving around that keyword phrase and stagger the posting. Use the keyword titles like “fly fishing tips”

Go to the blog dashboard and remove everything from the sidebars except the Archives. Build an HTML widget with a link to your site where you have your products, services and business opportunities. Make the widget say something like “Best Prices on Fly Tying Supplies” and place at the top of the blog above your articles. Another widget in the sidebar with smaller text, with perhaps a different title.

Remember

Your purpose is to drive “Free” traffic to your main site, so avoid any advertising and any links leaving the blog other than the widgets with your links that you created. It is not necessary to have anything other than a simple template. The future prospect lands on your page as result of the search engine query “Fly fishing video” not because of your template or graphics. Perhaps, something better than standard “Kubrick” template but something simple. As long as your blog title, post titles and content are related, you’ll be good to go!

Now its time to promote your blog. Twitter, Social bookmarks, however you like to promote.

Once you have completed your first blog.

Return to the wheel and choose another spoke and create another blog, then another, then another until you have used all of the highest ranking spokes. It can be a little monotonous, but the results will be fantastic. You will have created a huge amount of free traffic to your site based entirely on keywords!

homestartupbusiness.comWhen you’ve finished the first wheel, click on one of the spokes, as seen above, and a whole new wheel will be displayed, that is linked to the original keyword, the new wheel will display the new spokes of related keywords using the new keyword as the center.

Repeat the process!
